The best of the best in men’s tennis converge on Paris for the next fortnight, fighting it out in the year’s second Grand Slam at Roland-Garros. Who will prevail in what is perhaps the most wide-open major for two decades? Read on for our men’s Roland-Garros winner prediction.
Roland-Garros Predictions: Who Will Win It This Year?
Heading into the French Open this year, there are five genuine title threats in the men’s draw:
- Carlos Alcaraz
- Novak Djokovic
- Jannik Sinner
- Alexander Zverev
- Stefanos Tsitsipas
These five are the tennis bookies’ favorites, and all have either the form, history or general caliber to win the tournament. A further two players are long-shots, but still realistic chances of lifting the trophy at Roland-Garros:
- Casper Ruud
- Andrey Rublev
Outside of these seven, anyone else winning Roland-Garros would be an enormous surprise. So, from these contenders, who’s the best bet? Here’s our men’s French Open prediction.
Men’s Roland-Garros Winner Prediction
Our suggestion is to wager on Stefanos Tsitsipas winning Roland-Garros 2024.
The Greek has had a brilliant European clay swing so far. He began with a title in Monte-Carlo, his third at the Masters 1000 event. En route to the trophy he defeated the red-hot Jannik Sinner, plus world No 4 Alexander Zverev.
Just a week later, Tsitsipas was in another final. This time, he fell to Casper Ruud in Barcelona, with the Norwegian avenging his Monte-Carlo loss. After three weeks of non-stop tennis, Tsitsipas had a blip in his opening match at Madrid, falling to Brazilian clay court specialist Thiago Monteiro.
It took an equally impressive performance to dislodge him in Rome. Nicolas Jarry served his heart out in the round of 16 to defeat Tsitsipas, with the world No 9 coming within inches of winning still.
Tsitsipas’ Path to the Title
That brings us to Paris, where the 25-year-old has already moved through the first round thanks to a gritty win over Marton Fucsovics.
Tsitsipas sits in the same quarter of the draw as Carlos Alcaraz, and same half as Sinner. However, both of these contenders have injury clouds hanging over their heads. We feel confident that an in-form Tsitsipas is the best bet to either outlast, or straight up defeat Alcaraz and Sinner.
In the final of Roland-Garros, there’s a good chance Tsitsipas comes up against Germany’s Zverev. The No 4 seed has already sent Rafael Nadal home, and given his patchy form, we predict he’ll be the downfall of Novak Djokovic as well.
We favor Tsitsipas in a final against Zverev, however.
The pair met just recently in Monte-Carlo, with Tsitsipas prevailing in straight sets. This extended the Greek’s dominance of the head-to-head to 10-5, winning three of their last four meetings. On clay he’s particularly supreme, leading Zverev 5-1.
Of the contenders to win Roland-Garros, Tsitsipas is currently the fifth favorite at most major bookmakers. This gives the No 9 seed some juicy odds, with a payout of approximately 9.00 for Tsitsipas to win if you get a bet in now.
